The number of times I have seem a newspaper headline denouncing "micky mouse courses" and the "dumbing down of education"! The number of people to whom I have had to defend the idea that 50% of kids could go to University, and that having an educated society was the way forward!
But now the public is unanimously mourning the would-be students who are already forecast to not get a University place this year...
I've said it before and I'll say it again, make your sodding minds up.

I love getting comments and suggestions and getting debates going- that's why the blog's here!
But if you want to be anonymous, please give yourself a random name rather than leaving it blank.
If you leave the field blank, you'll be listed as "Anonymous", and that makes debates impossible to follow- no fun for anyone.
So get naming! :)

hey,
ReplyDeletejust about the '50% of kids at uni' thing...why does university have to be the only standard of education? aren't skills that can be learnt on apprenticeships, on-the-job training etc, equally valid and neccessary to society, and without incurring massive debts for the people learning them? 50% is the seemingly arbitrary figure that your Labour government decided on, and while i want every student that wants to go to uni to have the funding and places available, i don't see the need to push towards this golden figure?
