Longer library opening hours has always been an issue of mine, as has increasing the number of core texts and improving access to IT facilities and learning spaces. I have taken up the issue of another short loan machine too from my election opponent.
Is there anything else you think I should have on my library agenda?

DEATH PENALTY to all who hog computers by leaving their coat behind and pretending they are around when actually they've gone to lectures.
ReplyDeleteI'm a member of Amnesty but I'd make an exception for those people.
ReplyDeleteAir con! Pleeeeeeeease!
ReplyDeletestop spooking people out by sounding that bell just before the library closes.
ReplyDeletestop people with loud shoes from walking around the quiet areas.
The catalogue needs an overhaul! I'd LOVE to be able to see a list of articles/books by a single author. Currently if you search for an author, eg 'Smith, R.' you get EVERYTHING written by anyone called Smith, anyone with R as an initial and a load of seemingly random contributions.
ReplyDeleteHmm, well it'd be good if there were more week loans or long loans rather than short loans, or, failing that, a change in the short loan system or perahps, I don't know, three day loans or something. Short loans are extremely irritating as you can't renew them online, having to physically go in every day you need them before 11am - oh the fines I've recieved over short loans (but that's my fault, if we're honest, but I digress), so unless it's an emergency I've decided not to bother with what the university apparently sees as an innovative idea so they can have us make do with an inadequate number of books.
ReplyDeleteThey should either (in order of preference): 1 - buy more books of the week loan/long long type, 2 - allow us to renew short loans online, 3 - have loans in-between short and week loans, 4 - increase the time before we're fined. And while they're at it they can reduce those blasted fines - we know their game: it's just all one big racket to try to pay for a what would appear to be an under-funded library.
Oh yes and I agree with an overhaul of the catalogue, exact references for all books would be especially good.
Anyway sorry to rant, but short loans do have a tendency to cause me unprecedented levels of frustration. I'm sure you'll eventually find time to look into said issues (and probably find I'm the only one who's bothered, but nevermind).
Thank you, that is all.
